A Nightclub in Riga’s creative district
‘Piens’ means milk in Latvian, but your not going to find any milk on the menu outside of a cocktail. This place was one of the first clubs that opened up to cater to the burgeoning local hipster scene.
Indeed there was a distinct desire to keep the space for ‘locals’ and face control and language control were often used to keep large groups of foreigners and other undesirables out. This policy has relaxed a little recently but Piens is still a good choice, partly due to it’s location, for those wanting to escape the touristy clubs in the Old Town and see a different part of the city.
Reusing the top floor of an old factory space and located near other great places like Deli Snack, Valmiermuiža Beer, Labietis and Aristīds, Piens is the place to continue your night after a few starting drinks around the Central District of Riga. Piens is not just a nightclub, they serve food during the day and in summer, at terrace is located in the yard behind. They also care for the bicycle culture in Riga; the Piens Velo crew regularly organise bicycle related events, check out their mini velodrome. Piens video produce videos and short movies and they organise Piens Fest – a now-regular festival of music and art in Riga.
