Vegetarian Vedic food
Located in the Hare Krishna centre on Barona iela in the centre of Riga, this bistro style restaurant has been for many years the staple option for Riga’s vegetarians, vegans, students or just those looking for a cheap lunch.
Serving mainly Indian cuisine, such as rice and curries, naans and some sweets from the buffet, it is fast and cheap (although not nearly as cheap as other Krishna-run eateries around the world) RAMA is open mainly for the lunchtime crowd, but going close to closing time might get you a discount on what’s left of the day’s food.
Below the restaurant is a store selling a variety of imported spices and other delicacies, useful for those living here who want to cook up an authentic Indian dish at home. While you don’t have to visit the next door Krishna temple, you can still have a warm feeling inside after eating in Rama; some of the profit goes towards running one of the city’s soup kitchens feeding Riga’s poor and homeless. If you are looking for quick vegetarian food in RIga, then Rama is a good choice.
