The Moscow Suburb, also known as ‘Maskachka’ and officially known as the ‘Latgales priekšpilsēta’ is by far one of the least explored parts of Riga.
There is a huge amount of history here, of those who came to Riga to trade, work and live. Once home to a large Jewish population it became the Jewish ghetto for Riga during WWII. Today the suburb is run down, a little sad and in need of attention. That’s where we come in.

We use public transport on this tour so that we can get deep inside the suburb. You will be lead around the suburb by our guide, shown the Jewish ghetto area and the Old Jewish Cemetery. There will be a chance to take in plenty of the wooden architecture and to get close to the locals, which at times is not always a good idea.
The suburb itself is a bit fragile so we ask people to not be too loud or to take intrusive photographs of the local residents. It is not a zoo after all, and we have great respect for those that live there.
In the past, various people have told us not to visit this area with tourists. We simply do not believe this is a viable way to promote, support and create awareness about a part of the city with so much to offer.
