Gauja takes its name from one of the largest rivers in Latvia. The retro decorated bar in the city center has a relaxed atmosphere and interesting selection of music and drinks on offer. Step back in time to a soviet living room styled bar.
Here you can find old journals, radios, lamps and curiosities. Cozy and compact the bar attracts a small but loyal local crowd from the more creative edges of society. Its also a good place to see whats on in the city as their wall hosts an array of posters from up and coming events around the city.
The drinks selection on offer at the bar ranges from some of the better known varieties of refreshments but also some classical soviet soft drinks, including Kvass and sodas. Do not expect to come for lunch here, they only open at 1200 and serve basic toasted sandwiches. Prices are very fair and its a great place to spend an afternoon or evening. Closing time at 2300 is strictly adhered to so make sure you arrive well in time for last orders!
Summer in ‘Gauja’ is the time for the terrace benches to come out and this is a great time to mix amongst locals and get a taste of city centers summer life. Many a night has begun and many long term friendships have blossomed in this essential feature of Riga’s landscape. Enjoy!
