Take to the water in a Historical River Canal Boats

The canal that surrounds the Old Town of Riga was constructed many years ago as a fortress moat. In the late 1800’s it was converted to today’s canal and lined with beautiful parks and boulevards. A boat ride along the canal offers visitors a great way to enjoy sights of Riga from a different angle.

What is included

  • River boats suiting your group size
  • Professional guides
  • Possibility to include drinks and snacks
  • Pick-up from your location (within Riga Old Town and Central district)

Back in the old days, before the bridges over Daugava river were made, small river boats,   like the ones in the pictures above, used to transport locals around the water ways of Riga. Locals used to call the bigger ones “upes tramvajs” or “river tramway” and the small ones where “river taxis”.

Stepping aboard one of these historic river craft, you will be able to see boulevards, parks and squares, fountains and bridges and also market areas and the old harbour districts as you cruise the canal. The boats then enter the river offering majestic panoramas of Old Riga’s spires and the modern and soviet buildings of the left bank.

The boat trips around Riga canal and Daugava river can be arranged for daytime events and also for evening activities. If needed, we can arrange refreshments and some snacks on the boat too, just let us know ahead.
