Art cafe Kolekcionars
“Less is more” is the mission statement of the art cafe Kolekcionārs (Collector). This is not only a cafe but also a restaurant whose menu is hidden in a newspaper between art reproductions and poems. Once found, the menu reveals an interesting blend of local specialities and international food. If you don’t have time to fully peruse the menu, it is possible to take it away and continue reading the poems at home. Kolekcionārs interior is also a work of art, combining the latest designer furniture, mounted artwork on the walls, shelves holding designer items and of course, art on your plate and your taste buds. On Saturdays and Sundays they offer brunch between 10:00 and 15:00.
Kolekcionārs is located in Riga’s central district, 15 minutes from the Old Town, in an area where art decorates the streets on the facades of the region’s many Art Nouveau buildings. Constructed in the early 1900’s, one core idea behind the movement was that “Art is everywhere for everyone”. Many of Riga’s 800 Art Nouveau buildings are in the neighbourhood around Kolekcionārs, making the “Collector” a great place to stop during an exploration of Riga’s rich architectural past.
