Autumn is for movies.

Rainy autumn is here and it is time for movies. Riga International Film Festival (Riga IFF) starts on October 13 and will show wonderful film program until October 23. This is third year for the festival and they run international competition and have comprehensive film program of European films. Festival is structured in 8 different film programs: Artdocfest- Russia’s documentary film festival; Lielais Kristaps- National award; Nordic Highlights- program developed together with Nordic embassies; Kids Weekend- family film program; In Kino Veritas- non-narrative cinema; Short Riga- short film program; Riga IFF Selection- new cinema from Europe, International Competition.

Films will be screened in different cinemas all along beautiful Elizabetes street, the main location is cinema Splendid Place opened in 1923 and shoved the first sound movie in Baltics in 1929. Big hall in neo-rococo style of Splendid Palace is artwork worth visiting.

Mellow Mud (Es esmu šeit) October 22 at 13:30, Cinema K Suns

Latvian film which won Crystal Bear for the Best Film in Berlinale, Generation 14plus. It is story about Raja 17 years old and here brother Robis, they live in rural Latvia with grandmother. When grandmother dies they decide to hide it not to end up in orphanage. Also Raja experience here first love.

American Pastoral, October 21 at 19:00, Cinema Splendid Palace

The film is directorial debut for Ewan McGregor and it is based on the novel by Philip Roth and the novel “American Pastoral” won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998.
