Contemporary Art Festival Survival Kit.
Contemporary Art Festival Survival Kit is taking place for 8th time from September 8 to September 25. This years theme is Acupuncture of society. Festival is usually held in interesting venues- abandoned factories and buildings, last year it was held in empty library building after it moved to brand new building of National Library. This year it is C. C. von Stritzky’s villa Aristida Briāna street 9 and Pauls Stradiņs Museum for History of Medicine in Antonijas street 1.
Carl Cristof von Stritzky was owner of beer factory „Bier- und Porterbrauerei und Malzfabrik C. Stritzky” wich was located in quarter near the villa. It was second largest beer producer in territory of Latvia in 1913. Villa was built in the end of 19th century, C. C. von Stritzky lived there, there were beautiful garden between the villa and the factory. Villa was abandoned for a while but now it is popular venue for cultural events.
Festival is organized by Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art and curated by Solvita Krese and Inga Lāce. There will be film screenings, discussions, performances and exhibitions. Festival started in 2009 when due to economical situation budget to culture were cut significantly. Since then festival is always exploring socially important topics and looking for alternative scenarios to solve problems.
