Christmas Markets are taking over Riga, so don’t get stuck only in the touristy ones in Old Town, but head out to Riga’s Miera Street District and meet the locals on 3rd and 10th of December
From an old road leading Riga’s wealthy German merchants to the Great cemetery in 18th century to what’s today regarded as the city’s number one hipster hotspot – Miera iela has gone a long way. A great place to visit any day for a coffee and cake or some craft beer, the active people of this neighbourhood have set up their own Christmas fair too and for the first time many businesses will stay open later entertaining locals and visitors from other Riga’s parts alike.
First instalment will take place on the 3rd of December at 18:00(the other one in a week, on the 10th of December). The market will be organized in the courtyard of Miera street 15. Expect local hand made crafts and items of Latvian design(This tucked away court, by the way, is soon to become home to a new wine bar). But it won’t be only that – almost every business on the street will part take in the festivities.
The Chocolate Museum will make sure every passer-by gets a hot cup of coco, but those who want to expand on the caffeine experience are welcomed to the Rocket Bean Roastery for some of their own roasted coffee, cakes or delicious food. Dad Cafe and TAKA both will have live music, besides the regular cakes and craft beer, respectively. Miera cafe will have a board game evening and Illuseum will warm you up their teas.
Besides the aforementioned cafes and bars, also shops like M50 or 20. gadsimts will have special offers and don’t forget that just around the corner you have Aristīds nightclub and Labietis microbrewery. All this and more makes is a good reason to stroll down Brīvības street and visit this great part of our city.
