OAG Aviation Solutions has recognized Latvian national airline as the most punctual airline in the world, with almost 95% of their flights arriving on time.

Latvian state owned airline topped the list leaving companies like Japan Airlines, Austrian Airlines and Iberia behind. OAG came up with this list by analysing over 900 airlines and their flight departure and arrival information, as well as cancelled flights. It might sound surprising, but already 5th place holder’s on-time percentage is lower than 90%, once again reminding us to be careful when booking connected flights. airBaltic won this category for the first time, last year not even making it in the top 10 and we hope they will be consistent in their high reliability.

airBaltic offers direct flights to Riga and also to other airports in Baltic from most major European cities and popular tourist destinations. It will celebrate it’s 20th birthday this year and with only 25 aircraft is one of the smallest national airlines in Europe, still being the biggest in Baltics. There are, however, future plans to expand the fleet to over 30 aircraft by 2016. Investments are estimated at over 1 billion US dollars and the new planes will be made by the Canadian company Bombardier Aerospace.

In 2008 airBaltic changed it’s model from point-to-point carrier to a network airline and mainly because of airBaltic efforts Riga is becoming a popular place for connected flights, mainly between East and West, once again reminding us about it’s fantastic geographical location. Ticket price range is quite big, offering low cost flights in Europe and more expensive ones to further destinations in places like Central Asia.
