Here at Eat Riga we care about making our city more bike friendly and although the overall progress of installing bike lanes has been somewhat slow and unsatisfactory, we do have very active groups of cycling advocates and this time they have caught more than just the annoyed van drivers attention.

Local biketivists, if you will, constructed mock car frames in effort to display how little space is needed for a single bicycle in comparison to an auto, showing that it’s the cars themselves that create traffic jams and not the newly installed bike paths. All of this comes after summer’s heated debate on the blogosphere and social media where drivers and cyclists were trying to prove each other wrong.

Hopefully such a visually impressive demonstration will open the unbeliever’s eyes and we’ll see more velocipedes and less automobiles in the streets or Riga.
